GENERAL VASCULAR
&
MINIMALLY INVASIVE SURGERY

The gallbladder is a temporary storage depot for liquid bile produced by the liver.

Gallstones are typically formed in the gallbladder and are classified as cholesterol or pigment stones. For the most part, asymptomatic gallstones do not require surgery. However, when patients have symptomatic gallstones surgery is often advised. A typical gallbladder attack involves upper abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and perhaps some back pain. Ultrasound, CT scan, HIDA scan or MRI (MRCP) may be used to confirm the diagnosis.

We are specialized in minimally invasive methods of surgery. This means that, when possible, surgeries are performed with a surgical scope that allows for completion of the operation through minor incisions. Because no major abdominal incision is made, minimally invasive surgery reduces post-operative recovery time and risk of complications.

Surgery is normally performed:

LAPAROSCOPICALLY or ROBOTICALLY - with most patients going home the day of surgery or the following day.
