The adrenal glands are two small triangular shaped organs located above each kidney. These endocrine glands produce hormones that are involved in the control of blood pressure, chemical levels in the blood, water use in the body, glucose usage and the fight or flight reaction during times of stress. These hormones include cortisol, aldosterone, epinephrine, norepinephrine, estrogen and androgens.

The most common reason to have the adrenal gland removed is excess hormone production by a tumor located within the gland. Sometimes removal may be required for large tumors or if there is a suspicion that the tumor could be a cancer.

An adrenalectomy is a surgical procedure where one or both (bilateral adrenalectomy) adrenal glands are removed. An adrenalectomy can be performed using an open incision or minimally invasive technique (robotic or laparoscopic). We help you determine the best approach for your medical condition.

Surgical procedures include:

LAPAROSCOPIC or ROBOTIC ADRENALECTOMY - has key advantages for patients including:

• Less post-operative pain
• Faster recovery from surgery
• Shorter hospital stay
• Quicker return to work and normal activities
• Improved cosmetic result
